Natascha Madeiski Studio Zürich and London based design studio producing furniture, lighting and accessories.

Natascha Madeiski Studio was established in 2009 and the first range of products launched at the Milan Salone Del Mobile 2010. Natascha who is a trained architect has always been passionate about materials and the making. Some of her projects are initiated as intuitive hand crafted pieces whilst others have their clear motivation in architecture and spatial design. Most of her work focusses on one

particular material and employs contemporary automated manufacturing processes to reinterpret traditional craft and artisan techniques.

This project started with a dismantled mattress. I cut the foam into sections and used its patterns and textures as the base for developing new ceramic forms. Foam is usually seen as temporary and disposable, but when it’s translated into another material, its geometry suddenly gains weight and value.
The pieces you see here were conceived as wall installations, yet during our Nuova Tavolata they moved onto the table and became serveware for the evening. I enjoy when a work finds an unexpected place — still connected to its origin, but open to new functions.
