I love community halls, and community gymnasiums. The word community is it. Everyone in the area uses these facilities, and that makes them special to families. So when I get to do one. It’s a good time. It’s been a long time since Canoe Creek elementary school gym has seen an upgrade, but here it comes. Complete Resand, new game lines and refinish. Looks great, thanks for the job.

This was a great one. Old fir. Milled locally in the Cariboo, dried and then installed . Unfortunately, someone glued the board edges together during install, before sanding. So over the last 20 Odd years , as the boards have tried to move with humidity changes, the couldn’t. So they just split at their weakest point. So to sand and refinish it, I have to repair these jagged cracks. Some up to 1/2” wide. Thank goodness for a track saw to cut strips in the floor. Then install the new fir strips, screw everything down, and cut fir plugs to hide the screw heads. Nothing to it, except time and patience. I was surprised at how nice it turned out.

My little church job. What a great space. A clever customer bought this old church, put a bathroom, and kitchen in the basement while renovating the upstairs. You never know what the floor will look like under all that old paint, but it turned out great. Now she has a kitchen, and bathroom up and down. A huge double lot and a unique little house when she’s done.

As I’ve got older, gained experience and proficiency, I have been fortunate enough to be now able to pick my jobs( and customers) to a fair degree. Not many kitchen and hallway jobs anymore. Just for friends. So when I first saw this job, almost a year ago, I’m not sure what I was thinking. Sure I thought, a couple of walls have to go, there will be tile removed and some splicing of old wood to new to fill in that area. I don’t like splicing new wood into old. Just a personal thing. Although I’ve never met another pro that likes it either. Any how , this is how it starts. What used to be a tile hallway and sunroom will all be oak hardwood with no trace it was anything else. I couldn’t splice in the mater bedroom, as it was too far off line. More to come as the job continues.

This was a fun one. Way out west. Ulkatcho First Nation community hall. Anahim lake country. It was a large job with limited time lines, so some long days.
After twenty odd years at this , I am still amazed at the transformation in hardwood. From a tired , dirty , worn out old floor. That to most people looks like it should be torn out , to a new and vibrant playing surface with another 60 years service ahead of it. It had two game lines originally, so I re did the basketball, and volleyball courts. Then added ball hockey lines in yellow.
I love this business. (When it goes according to plan😁)
