Back to basics👇🏼

If your DMs makes your new connections block you, it’s because you aren’t connecting.

You are talking about you, and let’s be honest: people don’t care about it (or about your winning formula, initially).

Break the ice in the comments of that person’s last post instead .

Say something meaningful, and then extend the conversation in DMs once you send that personalized connection request.

It’s the same exchange you can have at a social gathering.

The best sellers ask questions and build rapport before to receive the information they are looking for.

You can do the same.

This is one way of many to connect with your potential clients on LinkedIn, even if you are strangers.

Don’t get fancy.

Stop sending automated DMs that have the wrong information about that person.

Unsolicited advice is rarely welcomed.

There is only ONE thing that stalls your chances to build meaningful relationships and grow your network more effectively:

❌Pitching right after connecting with someone.

And please, don't give me wrong, there's a great potential in finding your potential prospect after doing your research and reading their profiles.

BUT!

🚩When the first message is about you, you, your business, your Calendly, your interests, your time and your benefit, it's clear to the other person there's no interest whatsoever in them, except for their money.

👎🏼No bueno.

It's THE SAME as if you were meeting that person in real life.

You don't shovel a calendar link in someone else's face right away after saying 'nice to meeting you'.

Take the time to meet them, to see whether there is a true match, by allowing the potential prospect to talk to you about what struggles they might have, or for goodness sake, to see if they are nice to talk to 🤷🏻‍♀️.

I've got 6 new connections who have only pitched right after clicking ACCEPT, and simply have shown zero interest in building a conversation with me.

Am I their potential client? I might be.
Will I be their client? Nope.

There's a lot of effort, great resources and insights other rockstars have made available to me for free, with their content and expert advice.

👍🏻With their conversations in DMs,
👍🏻With their genuine support.

That's Social Selling.
Not Social Shoveling.

How do you know you’re on the right path of building your personal brand?

Here’s a list to consider👇🏼

Just because you are sharing content and commenting on people’s posts doesn’t mean you are known for a specific topic.

Your message starts with

📌 Your Profile (complete? Incomplete?
📌 Your story
📌Talking about your industry (or preferred) topics
📌Engage with others in those topics
📌Develop your style/voice with original content
📌Find creative ways to make a bigger impact and standout from the crowd
📌Create a custom/branded hashtag, so people can follow and learn from/about you
📌Find your anchor (what’s unique about you and make it a part of your UVP).

And I can go on and on until I can’t write anymore,

But you get me. Do you?

It’s about a set of actions that speak for you.

I’m all about helping you see what you need, take it and leave out what doesn’t.

Branding yourself isn’t paying for a logo.

It’s a lot bigger, and it starts with ⚡️your profile⚡️.

There are also big NO-NOs that instead of helping you, they would hurt or slow down your efforts.

(Check slide 3 for a list of No-No’s ⛔️).

Your Profile might be showcasing you as an employee and not as a business owner.

Hear me out - it may be telling people the wrong narrative you want them to know.

Is it talking about you, the employee? the leader? Or the business owner?

There’s a big difference, and people notice it.

💡(And btw there’s nothing wrong with being either)

Here’s how to really know whether your profile is a business magnet:

➖People understand what you do clearly.

➖Your content helps them solve a problem or helps them understand who/what you are here for AND generates new leads consistently.

➖ You are reached out to provide information about your services/products, instead of job opportunities.

➖People can easily find a way to your offerings, either in your featured content or links.

➖Your network grows steadily with connections who will support you, partner/collab with you and buy from you.

➖People will seek your insights and knowledge about your specialty as a guest in podcasts, interviews and speaking opportunities.

➖Every section of your profile provides a client-centric approach (talk about what you do, who you help and how).

➖It builds your credibility with recommendations and reviews from current and former clients, supporters, colleagues, to name a few.

In the end being present, engaging with your network and sharing relevant content must create awareness, build your personal brand and help you fulfill your business goals.

Otherwise you might only be creating noise.

Automate repetitive tasks, but not this one, this way🙄⬇️

You tend to forget you have them set up for a certain audience, but what about when it’s a connection who doesn’t belong to your target market?

The message is completely out of context.

Authenticity = 0
Relationship Building =0
Personality =0
First Impression = -10👎🏼

Also, if reported, the one restricted or banned it’s your profile, not the automation platform.

So spending money on saving time might cost you so much more.

Verdict = 👎🏼

Automate repetitive tasks means:

✅Having templated messages in your notes ready to customize and then be sent, depending on who your are connecting with (socializing, prospecting, potential partnerships, answering to CR from comments on your posts, to name a few examples).

✅ Knowing what type of responses you’ll provide in comments (showing your expertise?, casual/fun chat with fellow connections, supporting your peers, thoughtful disagreement,etc.)

✅Scheduling posts to get yourself organized BUT posting from your desktop/mobile, rather than from a third party app.

The point is to connect, to be present and to increase your chances for your CR to be accepted, rather than reported, isn’t it?

☹️Not getting much traction or engagement in your posts?

🎁Give first.
🎁Give genuinely.
🎁Give with kindness.

Make it a habit.

Here are two actions you can take today to warm up your trusted connections with.

1️⃣Comment in other people’s posts (10-15 if possible, per day).

2️⃣Endorse the top 3 skills of 10 trusted connections.

IMPORTANT: This shouldn’t feel forced.

It should be genuine, as it’s your word in those, you endorsing someone who you know has such skills.

Now, on a scale of 1 - 10, with 1 being a social ghost and 10 being a Social Burtterfly, jow social are you?

How to grow your Network with Insights

Q: What type of format do I post?
A: Mix it up (Carousels, polls, video, image, text, etc)

Q: Where do I find content topics?
A: LinkedIn News, Google, your own feed!

Q: How often should I post?
A: As often as you can sustain (consistency, consistency, consistency).

Q: What strategy should I follow?
A: Post, engage, comment, measure, repeat and have fun!

Well - I don't know if you have fun creating content, but this challenge shared by  for Creators made me jump like when my elementary teacher said "pick a friend for the next project" but even before reacting, Mo had already reached out with Clare as well.

⁉️How would I say no to this??

And this is the joy of building true friendships, partnerships, collaborations and getting to know, like, trust and support genuinely your people on LinkedIn.

They will look for ways to enhance and grow together.

We aren't islands. We are a community of like minded humans. And one thing we have in common is that we want to have fun!🙋🏽‍♀️🙋🏻‍♀️🙋🏼‍♀️
