Late last year I made this overarm dust collection brace for my table saw to work with my existing my shop vac hose. It clamps to the saw with 3 small C clamps and uses velco to keep the hose in place. The brace makes it quick and easy to connect the hose, while keeping it above the table so it doesn’t get in the way while making cuts.

I didn’t have enough long clamps to get clamping pressure on the inside pieces when gluing up the dresser, so I made these clamping blocks which worked well.

I used a story stick to mark where all the dowel holes on our dresser legs need to go. Much easier (and probably more consistent) than having to do the measurements on every leg.

Earlier this week was a good reminder of the joys of wood movement 🤦‍♂️. I had finished laminating both side panels of our dresser with some resawn white oak and had set them aside until I’d be working on the dresser next. Unfortunately, I laid the one panel directly on my assembly table so it couldn’t get any airflow underneath. When I came back to it, the panel had started to cup, so was no longer flat. Luckily, I stickered it so both sides of the panel could breath and the panel has now flattened back out. Good thing, since these panels are not a quick process (at least not for me)!

I’m starting to build our dresser to go with the two night stands I’ve already built. Step 1 is to mill all the pieces for the frame to rough size before milling to final dimensions when I do the joinery.

Before and after shots of dry fitting the open shelf on the nightstands. By making it out of plywood it means I don’t have to worry about any wood movement issues as this will be encased within the nightstand. I’ve veneered the plywood myself though (rather than purchasing white oak plywood) to have it match as much as possible to the solid wood rails at the front and back to give the illusion of a solid wood panel.
