The interior! (pending flooring install). Stainless countertops by , lighting by Quarry Ridge Electric, with Ennadai fabricating and installing everything else: timber frame, mass timber wall and roof assemblies, cabinets, etc. The entrance vestibule, kitchen, seating area, and all the best views are located in the upper level of this hut. The lower level is sound isolated from the upper and has four separate rooms which will sleep a total of twelve people once beds are installed.

Further to our last post about wall assemblies, this is what it looks like from the inside. No stud walls requiring drywall, the structural wall assembly IS the finished interior wall. We think it looks great in any residential build - but we like it even more when we don't have to fly drywall up a mountain with a helicopter!

Let's talk wall assemblies! The is built with a structural timberframe and Ennadai's Heavy Tongue and Groove system. The t&g that you see on the walls is 3" thick and provides the entire structure for the walls - no stick framing required. This system has all the benefits of a mass timber building (better for your health, for sound, for heating and cooling, for looks, for the environment...) but does not require heavy machinery or cranes to install - very important on a remote site like this. These walls are prefinished, so assuming you like the look of wood T&G, the interior face is already completed - no drywall or painting required. Next up, rigid insulation (no thermal bridging!) and then the metal cladding.

We learned a few things about building up in this zone last fall while working on the new picnic shelter at the other end of Berg Lake. Good self-care in the elements is critical to safety and fun in the wilderness. For us this means it’s critical to have a warm, dry place for our team and of our first priorities was getting this tent space set up for that purpose. We’ve been lucky to have several days of beautiful weather to get it done before things start to change tonight/tomorrow!
