It is estimated that the mountain pine beetle has killed a total of 710 million cubic metres of timbre. This affects 18.1 million hectares of forest (more than 5 times the size of Vancouver Island). While it appears that the infestation rate has slowed since 2005, models prepared by the BC Ministry of Forests estimate that 58% of the pine volume in British Columbia may be killed by 2021.

The table featured in this photograph was hand made from beetle killed wood taken from the Thompson-Okanagan Region of British Columbia. The base of the table is drift wood collected from the shores of Kamloops Lake.



The damage caused by the beetle can be seen on the table top as the greenish hue along each of the sides.
