Some recent "before and after" photos. It really is remarkable how a fabric makeover can give an old or worn piece new life. It is so satisfying to be able to give customers a whole new look to their décor.

The owner of this catamaran redesigned the seat layout to reduce the curves, creating a much more comfortable space to lounge and stretch out. The cracked and ill-fitting cushions were given the heave-ho and replaced with new foam seats and back rests, and upholstered with a lovely subtle teal and tan flecked fabric.

Here's another example of how you can refresh a tired and worn chair. This piece had its original vinyl from 1969 and was way overdue for reupholstering (duct tape is great for a lot of things but not reupholstering!) The customer chose a modern small-weave tweed which kept the feel of the 1960's but brought it into the 2020's.

Check out the dramatic seating transformation in a really beautiful sailboat I recently worked on. The owners decided on a lighter color fabric and a re-design of the cushion layout to create a much more sleek and brighter salon. New foam for the seats and angled backrests added a whole new level of comfort.

This charming antique settee was such a special project for me. The owners have wonderful memories tied to this piece and it was a joy to work with them to bring it back to life. Constructed of more springs and straw than I have ever seen, it was quite a challenge to work on and is definitely unique.

Take a piece of furniture with good "bones" and give it a refresh with fabulous fabric. Worth it!

This wing back chair belonged to my grandmother, my mother and now me. I decided to give it a more modern streamlined look by eliminating the piping, false back cushion and buttons, and re-imagined the fronts of the arms. I used a luscious chartreuse yellow velvet with teal and blue highlights to compliment my décor. The wood legs were given an antique gold finish to mimic some of my vintage Florentine furniture.

Tinker’s Hatch Upholstery & Decor

Welcome to Tinker’s Hatch Upholstery & Decor! It all started here (above), with a love of collecting antique, vintage and mid-century-modern pieces and teaching myself how to bring them back to their glory. As you can see....I have my work cut out for me as this is only one storage facility awaiting reupholstering. A couple of years of figuring out how to upholster (or more importantly how NOT to upholster) and a year of apprenticeship with a master upholsterer and furniture maker later.....and I am now ready to start my own shop. Please visit my website at www.tinkershatch.com

About that name....Tinker’s Hatch is the name of a lovely medieval home in Warwick, England built in the 1600s. It is purely coincidental that the name is the same as mine. My mom lived in that home and it was always a fond memory for her. She named her B&B Tinker’s Hatch. This is my homage to mom, who loved antiques and beautiful fabrics.
