The Mountain Ash Gathering Plate is a labour of love, an anniversary gift to my muse, my amazing wife Chantelle as a token of love, appreciation and gratitude. We love a good movie night together so this piece will serve up snacks whenever we have a movie night!

Finished in a traditional Japanese method known as “Yakisugi or Shou Sugi Ban” which involves charring the wood, burnishing the burnt results with sandpaper and wire brushes and then sealing the charred surface with natural oils. This ancient method has been used on the exterior of Japanese wood clad buildings and is extremely durable lasting decades with minimal maintenance.

One of those lightbulb moments (pun intended!) - “If it’s stupid and it works, it ain’t stupid.” I’ve been struggling to get a result I was happy with. After lots of trial and error I came to the conclusion that I needed more light. Cue cable ties and an LED torch 😂
