How a custom door goes from a drawing to a finished, packed-flat panel.

This one was a big one — 2350 × 1500 × 32mm, cut to the customer's own drawing. We drew it up in Cabinet Vision, then machined it from raw moisture-resistant MDF on our Biesse Rover, with the V-groove panel running the full face and cut in a single pass. At over two metres, the real work is keeping a sheet that size dead flat and square.

We manufacture and supply the door. The finish and the fit are yours, or your builder's.

The part a lot of people don't realise: it doesn't have to be a door, and it doesn't have to fit a standard size. If you can draw it, or even just give us the dimensions, we can cut it — one-offs, odd shapes, bespoke components, the lot.

Ten new colours from Laminex, and if you're planning a kitchen, laundry or wardrobe in custom flatpack cabinetry this year, they're worth a look before you settle on a palette. The full set is in the post above.

Here's why we're flagging it now rather than when they land.

Colour is the decision people make first and regret last. It's also the one that gets locked in earliest — once your sizes are confirmed and the sheets go through the saw, the finish is set. Changing your mind at that point means a new order, not an edit.

So the useful thing to know is what's coming, not just what's on the shelf today.

The timing is awkward. Nobody can buy them yet, and no date has been put on when that changes. Free samples are available direct from Laminex right now, and that's the move if your job is a few months out — order a few, live with them on the bench for a week, see how they read in your own light.

A compact period kitchen and a floor-to-ceiling wardrobe — custom cut, packed flat, and finished to match across both rooms.

Anyone who has renovated an older home knows the problem. The walls lean, the ceiling height changes across the room, there is decorative cornice you do not want to cut into, and the whole space is smaller than the standard sizes assume. Stock cabinetry gets you close and then leaves you filling gaps with timber and hope.

This project was cut to the actual room instead. Uppers sized to finish neatly below the cornice. An open shelf built into the run so a wall of doors does not close the space in. A wardrobe in the bedroom taken right to the ceiling — no dust shelf, no wasted head height — in the same door finish as the kitchen, ordered at the same time.

Two rooms, one supplier, one delivery, one set of measurements that agree with each other.

The back of a pantry isn't usually something you'd film.

But this one doesn't sit against a wall. It stands in the middle of an open-plan beach house, dividing the kitchen from the stairwell, so every face had to be finished — storage on one side, a clean plane on the other.

300mm deep, because that's what the room had to give. The broom cupboard next to it is 200mm wide.

And it's still going. Tape on the doors, no handles, film not even peeled off. The original kitchen is still working away while the new one goes in around it.

That's the part worth understanding about flatpack. Plan the whole thing once, build it in stages — ordering what the budget allows, installing on a weekend that suits, coming back when you're ready. Nobody moves out.
