Meet the Maker: Whistle & Page

Whistle & Page is a body of work bringing meaning, beauty and intention into the everyday.

Founded by Nawsheen, each ceramic piece is shaped slowly by hand, carrying the imprint of movement, care and time. No two are the same. Each one is created to be used — to sit in your hands, on your table, and become part of the rhythm of your day in a way that feels both natural and lasting.

There’s a deep respect for process here — from the first touch of clay to the final firing — where every stage is considered, and every detail matters. It’s this dedication that gives each piece its presence, its weight, its sense of belonging wherever it lands.

Alongside the ceramics sits her Blooming Hearts children's books series. Grateful is a reminder to notice what’s already here, while Bountiful — now available for pre-order — expands into growth, possibility and a fuller way of seeing. Stories that resonate far beyond the page.

These are pieces and stories made to be lived with — to hold, to return to, and to shape the moments that matter.

The new collection is now live, created with this intention at its core, from her hands to your heart and home.

Meet the Maker: Burgundy Baking

There’s something deeply special about cake when it’s made with intention — not just for celebration, but for the moments that deserve to be remembered. Burgundy Baking brings that sense of occasion into every creation.

Specialising in handcrafted cakes, Burgundy Baking blends artistry with flavour — creating pieces that are as beautiful to look at as they are to share. Each cake is thoughtfully designed, balancing texture, richness and detail, whether it’s for a milestone celebration or a simple gathering made meaningful.
At the heart of this maker is a love of baking that goes beyond the surface. It’s in the careful layering, the considered flavours, and the attention to finish — where every element feels deliberate and every cake tells its own story.

These are cakes made to be part of something — birthdays, weddings, long lunches, or sweet little celebrations at home. Cakes that mark time, bring people together, and linger in memory long after the last slice.

We’re proud to welcome Burgundy Baking to the Makers of Murrumbateman — adding another layer of creativity, craftsmanship and celebration to our region.

Meet the Maker: Gillies Bros Distillery

Set on family land in the Yass Valley, Gillies Bros Distillery is driven by curiosity, craftsmanship and a commitment to doing things properly — by hand, from start to finish.

Founded by David Gillies in 2021, the distillery began with a fascination for traditional small-batch distilling and has evolved into a fully hands-on operation where every stage matters. From milling grain through to bottling and labelling, each spirit is crafted on site with precision and intent.

Their range spans moonshine, gin, whisky and seasonal brandy, with flavours shaped by locally sourced ingredients and produce grown close to home. There’s a bold, expressive quality to their spirits, where experimentation meets technical skill, resulting in distinctive flavour profiles that stand confidently on their own.

You’ll often find Gillies Bros out in the region, sharing their spirits, telling their story and connecting directly with the community — bringing people closer to the process behind what’s in the glass.

We’re proud to have Gillies Bros Distillery as part of the Makers of Murrumbateman — adding another layer of craft, character and innovation to our region.

Meet the Maker: The Vintner’s Daughter

Some stories are written over generations — and in Murrumbateman, The Vintner’s Daughter is one of them.

Founded by winemaker Stephanie Helm and viticulturist Ben Osborne, this family-run vineyard is deeply rooted in both place and legacy. Stephanie’s journey began at just nine years old, learning alongside her father, and that lifelong connection to wine is evident in every bottle.

Here, wine is not rushed. It’s grown, shaped and guided — from vine to glass — with an uncompromising focus on quality. Every grape is hand-picked, every batch carefully considered, and every wine crafted to reflect the character of the land it comes from.

Set among vines dating back to 1978, the vineyard itself tells a story of Murrumbateman — one of history, evolution and excellence.

But what makes this maker truly special is the balance they strike: tradition alongside innovation, old-world techniques alongside a modern, thoughtful approach. The result is a collection of small-batch wines that feel both grounded and expressive — each one a reflection of terroir, season and skill.

And when you visit, it’s more than a tasting. It’s a glimpse into a way of life — where vineyards, animals, family and craft exist side by side, inviting you to slow down and truly connect with where your wine comes from.

This is what we love about our makers — stories poured into every glass, shaped by passion, place and generations of knowledge.

Meet the Maker: Sweet Pea & Poppy

There’s something truly special about chocolate when it’s made with intention — and Sweet Pea & Poppy is exactly that.

Born from a passion for flavour, creativity and thoughtful gifting, this Murrumbateman-based boutique chocolatier transforms chocolate into something far more than a treat. Each piece is handcrafted in small batches, using ethically sourced couverture chocolate and layered with uniquely Australian ingredients — a celebration of both place and craft.

At the heart of Sweet Pea & Poppy is founder Yasmin, whose journey began at her kitchen bench and has grown into a beautiful rural studio where chocolate, artistry and community come together.

From bespoke bars and indulgent truffles to thoughtfully curated hampers, everything is created with care — right down to the sustainable packaging and the experience of opening each box.

And it doesn’t stop there. Their Murrumbateman studio invites you in — to taste, to learn, to connect. Whether you’re visiting the chocolate shop, enjoying an ice cream in the country air, or getting hands-on in a workshop, it’s an experience designed to be shared.

This is what we love most about our makers — passion turned into something tangible, something generous, something worth lingering over.

Last night, we hung up our aprons, washed the day from our hands, and stepped into our Sunday best for something rare and beautiful — a night together.

For a few hours, the tools were set down. The vineyards, studios, paddocks and workshops paused. And in their place came stories. Not of products, but of beginnings. Of how farmers, winemakers, metal and wood workers, chocolatiers, ceramicists, artists and makers of all kinds found their way to this land — and chose to build something meaningful here.

There was very little shop talk. Instead, there was heart talk. The kind that moves through passion, doubt, risk and resilience. The kind that reminds you that every bottle poured, every vessel shaped, every table built, every chocolate crafted carries someone’s whole self inside it.

A heartfelt thank you to Shaw Estate for hosting us so generously, and to the winemakers — the OGs — for bringing the goods and grounding the night in place and purpose.

What a privilege it is to be part of a region so rich in award-winning art, experieces, food and wine. So rich in skill. So rich in courage.

Good company. Brilliant makers.
And a small town with a very big soul.

These are the Makers of Murrumbateman.
