🎥 🎞️ Wolf Creek 3 is coming out later this year. The last time we watched Wolf Creek 1 & 2 was when we camped over at ‘Wolf Creek’ in the Northern Territory in 2018! This meteorite crater is massive and in really remote outback Australia. To get there is a really rough few days of absolutely nothing but bushland and corrugated road (so speed in the car is slow even with tyre pressure dropped to 15 psi). Travellers must be well prepared with food and fuel as there is not much traffic at all (we saw 3 vehicles in 3 days) and no shops/fuel for hours. We had tried to get there twice before but the roads were impassable and we had to turn back.
On this occasion we stayed there for three days as I had a deadline to submit one of my PhD articles, so needed to work on my draft manuscript.
While Wolf Creek is not directly based on a true story, (although a title at the start says, 'based on actual events’), it is influenced in part by the gruesome details of the backpacker murders committed by Ivan Milat in the 1990s, which were committed in a state forest near Sydney (which we have also camped at and will post about too).
I can’t wait for Wolf Creek 3! Who enjoyed the last ones and can’t wait for the next one?! 🎥

🎉👩🏻‍🎓🍷Studying while traveling?

I see a lot of posts about travellers studying and some of the challenges with wifi and meeting deadlines. Well guess what, I DID IT! I finished my PhD! 🎉🎉

As you can see in the picture below I embarked on my LSL in December 2021 to focus and finish my PhD whilst travelling across the great central road (from west to east).
It’s amazing that when I look at each of my journal publications I can remember where we had pitched up, as I spent time refining my manuscript 🤓. I also remember frantic times trying to plan a route so I had wifi so I could meet up online with my PhD supervisors 🤣.
It really has been an amazing adventure and the outcome is so precious to me 👩🏻‍🎓.
For anyone out there studying- you have got this! 📚
For anyone out there contemplating doing it- GO FOR IT! ✍️👏

🗺️ 🌵☄️ Ever visited a tourist attraction and been disappointed? 🤣
This article in the media reminded us of our trip to Dalgaranga Meteorite Impact Crater in Western Australia. We traveled 102kms from Cue across some rugged land to see the meteor impact site. On arrival we searched, and searched, and searched for the spot, only to realise the impact site was a very small dent in the ground. To say we were disappointed was an understatement 🤣🤣 .
I guess we had been spoiled by our trip to the awesome Wolf Creek meteor crater.
On a positive note- the history behind the Dalgaranga Meteorite site is very interesting. 👍👍

🐴 ☘️🌸 Royal Hotel, Bouldercombe, Qld.
This is a great place to stay. $2 per person per night. Toilets available and kept lovely and clean. Bush shower available-$2 for 5 minutes. The water is beautiful and hot 💦.
This site is located 15 minutes outside of Rockhampton. Nice and quiet. Very spacious sites. We had a couple of beautiful horses visit us. Len, the volunteer site caretaker, is one of the most dedicated and hard working caretakers we have met. The pub is closed unfortunately but we had beautiful meals in Mount Morgan ($11 roast meals!).
Definitely will be back

🗝🔐🔦 Security while travelling

We get asked a lot whether we feel safe whilst travelling. We have completed a full lap and the great central road and have never had any problems. We keep it simple- lock up when leaving your vehicles, keep valuables out of sight - or even better- take them with you.

Any travellers got any tips they would like to share?

🏠 🏕 💝 Living the dream, Australia 🇦🇺

We have been living in our beloved Jayco Hawk Outback since November 2021 after selling our property. Always a big change after living in a big house, but guess what? We love it- this is minimalist living. Check out the inside- two beds, lounge, kitchen (including grill, stove tops, fridge and kitchen sink). We also have our own toilet, shower (with boiler), 5 solar panels, travel fridge and seperate freezer. We prefer freedom camping because of the space, amazing night skies and quiet (I am sure some of you will appreciate the campsite sign picture 😂). We love the freedom it gives us- exploring this amazing country, meeting lovely people and seeing some great local products (though I gave that hot sauce a miss 😂🤣).

🦋🦜🌿 Silver Wattle Caravan Park, Mt Morgan, Qld

We have just spent a very relaxing 2 weeks in this fabulous caravan park. The hosts Dave and Debbie really do spend time keeping this place in tip-top condition (I particularly appreciated the 3 ply toilet paper 🧻 😂👍).
This is a great location to explore the local historic town of Mount Morgan which is full of history including a haunted pub 👻. Rockhampton is not far away (about 30 minute drive) so we enjoyed some meals out 🥘. I have also had a very productive time working on my writing project ✍️ 📚.
