Garry Rogers Fine Wood and Pencil

Garry Rogers Fine Wood and Pencil Wood Artisan creating a variety of fine woodwork pieces entirely from recycled and reclaimed timbers featuring detailed hand cut marquetry inlays.

Realistic graphite artist drawing Australian wildlife in pencil For me, the greatest buzz comes from collecting discarded bits of timber that most would consider rubbish, broken doors and old furniture etc. Then, using traditional woodworking methods turn it into a treasured heirloom piece. With this and to enhance its uniqueness, a fine marquetry inlay is added. From my perspective as a fine wood

artisan, this is the very least that I can do for the planet and the next generation. I believe that there is no other wildlife more in need of our attention than the unique and varied Australian fauna. Which is why it's my primary topic and motivation in both marquetry and the humble graphite pencil. As an artist and a naturalist, it is a joy to bring to life on paper or timber any of Australia's wild creatures and on occasions, the not so wild. So it is my hope that these photorealistic drawings and fine marquetry works will in some small way heighten the awareness of these wonderful creatures and, just as importantly, the unique natural systems they inhabit. Some stills of 'Tower #1' a Japanese inspired mini chest in recycled Yellow Walnut, Silky-oak, Red Cedar and reclaimed Camphor-laurel. Featuring an Eastern Shrike-tit and a Brown Ringlet Butterfly with the usual gum leaf signature, all the marquetry inlaid motifs are made from a number of shop cut veneers.

To celebrate the 100th birthday of a man who has inspired me and so many other artists, scientists, and people who are just curious and want to understand and preserve the natural world. One of his favourite birds a Paradise rifle Bird. This one an immature practising the dance,

One of my favourite pieces from last year which features one of my favourite birds, Yellow-throated Scrub Wren. The first few pics show part of the journey to creating a marquetry inlay. The segmented turned box was in Bolly Gum and Grevillea.

Coming up is a Regent Bower Bird.
With 1 or 2 elements to be drawn in and completing the composition this partly done motif sort of shows how the work progresses from line drawing to marquetry. Some of the veneers here are Ebony, Silver Ash, Socket Sassafras and spalted Ivory Wood.

A work from early last year The Eastern Yellow Robin Mini chest in Musk. Musk or daisy bush, 'Olearia Argophylla' is one of our rarest timbers, I believe that the name comes from the faintly musk perfumed flowers. There are a number of veneers in the marquetry inlay motifs, some of which are Ebony, Socket Sassafras, Mulberry and orange. Along with some ebonized Blackwood, Guioa, and Loquat.
