About me:
Ever since I can remember I've grown up around antiques and country farm living. I am certain every piece of furniture in my

parents house was either antique or shabby chic style. As a kid, my mum used to take me around to the antique auctions, vintage seconds stores and garden viewings. And to put it simply i take unwanted pieces of old time furniture and turn them into something amazing once again. I love the transformation of a piece and see it turn into something fabulous and sophisticated. Lastly i love to see these pieces loved once again and become renewed focal points in your home. These pieces are often 80 or so years old and have lived a whole life time already! They were once hand crafted by somebody very long ago and hold so many stories from different times and families, often the same families. They are built so well that there is no reason they can't go on for another 80 years! And who wants a flat pack laminate piece of 'furniture' from Ikea anyway ha! Like i always say ~ Collect pieces for your home that inspire you and are unique to you and tell a story!

The last piece of our clients vintage maple bedroom suite!

The last and the biggest! Most wardrobes are able to be taken apart for transportation. The top and bottom are usually able to separated. This particular wardrobe was as one piece so refinishing made it a little more difficult due to its weight.

Nevertheless we got there!
Stripped, sanded, repairs, paintwashed and sealed was the general consensus, much like the rest of the suite. (See my other posts)

The interior was restored using 50/50 pale boiled linseed oil and mineral turps, along with dark wax for a silky finish. After the removal of some old contact paper on the shelves.

More footage to come.

How fabulous to have whole matching maple bedroom suite refinished in this way. To be enjoyed for many years to come with a raw French country feel about them. šŸ’•

The CUTEST Milking Stool you ever did see! Basically collapsed and fell apart in my arms. See last photos āž”ļø

These were usually made with off cuts of hardwood from around the homestead and put together in a rustic way. In this case, with large and long nails. I imagine it would have been quite rickety from the start.

This little one could have been made anywhere from about the 1850s. One day I’ll hopefully find one of these for myself! I adore the shaped ā€˜peg legs’!

Quite tricky to reassemble as each panel now has a slight bow. After 3 attempts I found a happy place.

The legs are painted in the fun green ā€˜Fern’
The stool top was stained in ā€˜Brazilian roast’ and sealed in Scandinavian oil.

Afternoon tea became a social ritual in Britain during the late 1800s and early 1900s, particularly throughout Victorian and Edwardian eras, leading households to seek an elegant way to serve it. ā˜•ļø

The design detail on this vintage tea trolley has aged very well and will fit into a modern home beautifully.

What we did: ā¤µļø
Stripped and sanded. Glued down the lifting veneer on the shelves and glued the frame joints. A diluted paint wash was applied followed by a diluted stain. Then an oil sealer.

New brass castors were then installed. These were soaked in vinegar to remove the lacquer coating, followed by applications of brown glaze and a rub n buff gilding paste mix to create an antique brass look. In time this coating will wear off but the removal of the lacquer will allow the brass to patina naturally.

Tea trolleys are such a lovely and versatile item to have in the home. There are many styles to suit your own personal style and they look wonderful painted as-well! See our other refinished tea trolleys on our page for inspiration.

Here she is! > This old meat safe went through ā€˜it’! Saved from a fire at some stage, see the photos at the end for the extent of the fire damage. šŸ”„

This isn’t the first fire damaged piece I’ve worked on but it did have the most significant damage! Unfortunately the top was just too far burnt. I still stripped it first to really see what we were dealing with. Yes I could have kept it for character if we really wanted. To add to that, the sides of the top were also chopped off so in this case it was fitting to replace it instead. Sometimes I get pieces where one side of the top or both are sawn off flush with the sides of the piece and it’s so that particular owner could fit the piece into a tighter spot in the home.

This piece was also painted in lead paint - the chipping, flaking paint was a sure giveaway. So some extra precautions to make sure it was safely removed before proceeding. With that aswell there was zero sanding done afterwards to ensure any remaining lead dust didn’t enter the air around me.

The fire damaged pieces were replaced. New mesh siding and trim added. The base trim was also removed to reveal the legs. New hardware and of course that glorious fresh colour and stain!

This old meat safe could have easily been sent to the dump but sometimes if you just look closely, you’ll see ā€˜good bones’ and construction. Antique solid timber and just the right amount of vision to bring an old antique piece back to life. šŸ’š

As promised- I’m sharing how I fixed my wall to my page so you can SAVE it for later! ā¤µļø

I had to cut a hole in my wall to retrieve a piece of wood from the cavity behind our pocket door - possibly my fault šŸ¤¦šŸ¼ā€ā™€ļø So it left me with this hole to fix.
Patching walls used to scare me but it’s really not difficult at all- it’s just knowing how to do it!

I used my multi-tool to cut the wall (these cut plasterboard like butter!) and re-used the same piece of wall to patch it.
But if you have a hole that needs a new piece of plasterboard, you can buy small sizes for this job specifically that you can cut yourself.

✨Materials needed: all purchased from
* plasterboard
* Jointing Tape (with the checked holes)
* a bag of compound - I used gyprock pro repair 10 patch and repair. There is other options like repair kits or a rapid repair bag option aswell that dries faster in between coats.
* spatulas to spread the compound.
* foam sanding sponge
* scrap wood and wood screws.
*primer and paint

✨2-3 coats of the compound is needed to hide the repair. Spreading the compound out further for each application. Sanding smooth in between coats. Let each coat dry thoroughly, most of the day or overnight.
šŸ’›TIP: smoothing out the compound nicely at each application will mean less sanding you’ll have to do.

✨Mix the compound powder with water to make a thick batter or mud consistency. It has about 20 mins working time before it dries so mix up only what you need for each application.

Follow these steps and you will have a perfectly repaired wall that you’ve done yourself!

Ps. More detail on this repair and products is also saved to my highlights !

Jewellery Box Powder Rooms are just so fun and make my heart happy! šŸ¤Ž

For me I like to keep my living areas mostly neutral and calming. On the other hand in smaller rooms like a powder room and laundry room, that aren’t used constantly, I like to expand on pattern and colour and have some real fun!
