Images of Yesteryear

Images of Yesteryear Old photographs of Victoria and other states of Australia, 1870s to 1960s. 1000s of highest quality reproductions in a range of sizes, framed and unframed.

Images of Yesteryear was born out of a passion to preserve Australia's pictorial heritage. The vast majority of our images were taken by professional photographs and are all real photographs. The level of quality of our images is very high and little restoration is required. Our collection covers all states of Australia although our major emphasis is Victoria. We hold examples from most Victorian

country towns with extensive collections from Melbourne City and Suburbs, Mornington Peninsula and Dandenong Ranges. Our themes covering early Australian life include road transport, timber and logging, fashion and glamour, general Australiana as well as many others.

Thank you to all of our supporters over the last 25 years. For the time being, it is unlikely that our website will be operational in the future as previously stated. However, Trove has archived our website, the last snapshot being from March, 2019. The link for the website is below. It is not quite as functional as our active website was, but it has many of the features. The search box is not operational, but the many categories are active. This means that you can use the side arrows to select the relevant category and then search through the images. When you find one of interest, you can click on it to see the description and again to see a larger image. For most categories you can search through all of the images. But for those categories that had more than 13 pages (Dandenong Ranges, Victoria East, Victoria West, etc) the extra pages unfortunately cannot be viewed. The images generally appear alphabetically, although there may sometimes be some out of order at the beginning of the listing.
We can still be found at Red Hill Market on the first Saturday of the month (September through to May) and you can still contact us on 0412 089 258 or by email on [email protected] - the Images of Yesteryear email being no longer operational.
Framed images are no longer supplied but we continue to supply prints of 39 cm (approximately A3) for $30 plus postage.

and then search for Images of Yesteryear in the top left search box. It will be the first entry.

An interesting shot of motorcycles stopped for fuel at Blackwood Motors, Blackwood, Adelaide in the 1920s. Signage on the petrol bowser reads "Sound your ho**er". One can assume that their speed was not too great as the two on the left are wearing hats. Long before the introduction of helmets.

Roadside garages were popular from the 1920s, particularly in hilly places, as in this 1930s shot of Belgrave in the Dandenong Ranges, Vic. There are still some left but they are diminishing.
