Building airtightness in before the roof goes on.

This double-storey certified Passive House on the Mornington Peninsula with uses Mento Plus Connect and Intello Connex to lock in a continuous airtight barrier from the ground up.

The clever part: Intello Connex goes in across the internal load-bearing top plates early, before the roof and insulation are installed.

That means no wrestling membrane over top plates later, and no compromised airtightness line.
The membrane itself is built to handle up to 90 days of sun, rain and weather exposure during construction, so the build schedule isn't dictated by the forecast.

When it's time to run the full internal airtightness membrane, the pre-installed connection strip makes tying together tricky junctions (staircase void, cathedral ceiling, living room) straightforward.

Extoseal tape finishes the job, sealing junctions for a continuous join around openings and voids.

Airtightness done properly starts with sequencing, not patching.

Ventilation at the bottom of the cavity only does half the job.

Without an exit point at the top, hot moist air has nowhere to go, and you end up with the same problem as a fireplace with no flue.

Proper cavity ventilation needs an entry and an exit. Air moves in low, picks up moisture, and needs a clear path out the top before it condenses back into the wall.

This P-shaped wall top cavity closer profile creates that exit point. It installs vertically or horizontally, sits behind timber cladding, cement sheet, or whatever material's speced, and keeps air moving up and out instead of stalling in the cavity.

Skip it and you're relying on foam strips or gap fill to do a job they were never designed for.

Get it wrong and you're looking at the "esky effect": a sealed wall that traps heat and moisture instead of managing it.

Do you know what CLT is?

Cross Laminated Timber is becoming increasingly common across the construction industry, but it’s still relatively unusual to see it used as the main structural system of a residential build.

On Friday 16 October, we’re joining Sustainable Builders Alliance and G-LUX Builders on site in Middle Park for a hands-on look at exactly that.

As Devin gives us a sneak peek, you’ll be able to see the CLT structure fully assembled, ROCKWOOL on the outside, plus our ADHERO system, SOLITEX UM and other Performance Membranes products in action throughout the build.
It’s a chance to get up close to the build, see how the different elements come together and ask questions directly to the builders and suppliers involved.
