I have been playing, teaching and setting up banjos for over 40 years now. In 1999, with the assistance of master luthier Christopher Melville (of Melville guitars) I made my very first banjo, using a unique, superb quality Australian-made tone ring designed by European trained bell maker and banjoist Bill Jacob. We were overjoyed with the results! This began a continuing love affair with the art

of banjo making and discovering just what goes into making the finest sounding and highest quality instrument that can possibly be made. We have made both 4 and 5 string banjos as well as open backs and I believe my Bellbird range stands up with any of the finest instruments being made today. Growing sales and happy customers tell us so. Players of Bellbird banjos include such greats as Bela Fleck, Bruce Woodley (of The Seekers), Nat Torkington (The Pippy Pickers), Nick Keeling (Mustard Courage), George Jackson (The Company), Troy Cassar-Daley, Ross Nickerson, Alesa Lajana, Taylor Pfeiffer and many more. I’m reluctantly selling my Australian-made John Copley dobro, which I have owned since new, having purchased it in 2014. It is in absolutely pristine condition having been meticulously cared for and (sadly!) barely been played in that time. It sounds phenomenal, loud, clean, sweet and heaps of great dobro tone. And it looks as sweet as it plays. $3500.

The latest Tribute model, Earl Scruggs’ iconic 1934 RB3 “Granada” banjo. Made to exacting standards replicating as much of the original specs as possible, including the “relic” finishing. (See pic 4 below of Earl’s original banjo that I took at the CM Hall of Fame). Here the Earl sits along side JD Crowe’s legendary “Banger” model and the Mack Crow. The Earl and the Banger have both been distressed to really look the part.

Gibson Banjo for sale. (See update)

Here is the chance to own and enjoy a genuine yet rare Gibson banjo that has been brought back to life. My best research says this is a 1960’s RB250, possibly as early as 1962 or as late as 1972. The serial number is 122392. (Updated: Gruhn Guitars confirm the date is 1963, so it’s 63 years old!)

The original neck became unplayable due to moisture exposure and it had not been played for decades, so a beautiful new neck has been made by the Sullivan Banjo Company in the US to replace the original. I have undertaken the full restoration work, replacing the head, the tuners, the nut, the bridge and it has just been set up to perfection ready for its new life.

The replacement neck is a genuine authorised Gibson replacement neck and is made of roasted maple. It matches the old mahogany resonator perfectly. It features an Indian rosewood fingerboard with the gorgeous Wreath inlay pattern.

The banjo comes with the original neck and tuners and the original Gibson case it came in. A new Superior hardshell case is also available and I would recommend that.
