If you’re able to this December be sure to check out this display I doubt you will see anything else like it.
CHRISTMAS LIGHTS FOR CYSTIC FIBROSIS RECOGNISED AS A REGIONAL EVENT.
In 4 short years the Christmas Lights for Cystic Fibrosis has grown from a roadside verge display with 50,000 lights to this year where it will cover over 2,500 square meters and feature 450,000 lights. It will be one of Western Australia’s largest displays for a single residence and it is estimated that it will attract 30,000 people including over 6,000 visitors from outside of Albany.
In recognition of its growth and popularity the City of Albany has this year granted the lights Regional Event Status with the associated financial support this entails. This is such a fitting reward for the hard work put in by our team of more than 70 volunteers who have been with us over that journey and for those joining us this year for the first time.
The brainchild of Jeremy and Lorraine Stevenson, the Lights have provided a much-needed boost to funding for Cystic Fibrosis here in WA as well as delivering an extraordinary amount of exposure for the condition.
City of Albany Mayor Dennis Wellington said “This heartfelt project not only raises important funds for Cystic Fibrosis WA, it brings our community together and fills us with Christmas spirit.”
The city has been an avid supporter of the Lights from year two and this Regional Event Status will allow the lights to continue to provide the best possible experience for those who want to get into the Christmas Vibe.
Mayor Wellington went on to say “The City is proud to be supporting the event and encourages the community to get along and witness the spectacle.”
The lights will run from Friday the 2nd through to Thursday the 29th of December (closed Christmas Night) and will again be interactive with competitions run as people walk through the display. There will be new attractions such as the 5,000 LED lit artificial long stem roses that will be planted in honour of the Cystic Fibrosis Community.
Commenting on the announcement by the City Jeremy said “The selection process conducted by the city was comprehensive and included a face-to-face interview with the selection committee. It is very gratifying that all the effort our team puts in has been recognised as we look forward to bringing the Christmas spirit to the people of Albany, our visitors and its regions again this year"
